The Communal Table

Ace Hotel London succeeded in catering to shifting attitudes and patterns of behaviour when it came to what a hotel lobby could be. It defined a genuine and authored space for the Ace brand that engaged visitors and locals alike, transforming the local neighbourhood in an understated and nuanced way. To help blur these boundaries between work and leisure, we created a central transitional piece of furniture in the form of a bespoke communal table. During the day, the table was used by guests and locals for quiet working and informal meetings, but in the evening, as laptops began to disappear and were replaced with cocktails and chatter, it was used as an extension to the bar. This also aided in providing the ground floor space with a constant cycle of occupiers, transitioning throughout the course of the day for multiple purposes.
