Local contexts in Shoreditch

In redesigning parts of the facade, we considered aspects of the local context including the typical warehouse buildings on the neighbouring Curtain Road and Rivington Street - an area which, at the time, was also home to our studio. This informed our decision to break down the continuous glazed strip at ground level into a series of glazed frontages punctuated by dark brickwork. Each window highlighted one of the differing but complementary activities taking place within the lobby—a reception, workspace, cafe and flower shop.

Expressive brick detailing was used on the facade to create textures and patterns that added interest at street level while offering a contemporary take on this traditional and local material. In addition, crittall-style windows and doors were installed and used alongside materials such as cast bronze, and galvanised steel that referenced local metalwork traditions.
