We were approached by Canteen in 2005, with a creative brief for a new restaurant concept to bring together the best in British cuisine and design.

Their first location was opposite the iconic Spitalfields Market and on the ground floor of a new Foster & Partners development. Based on Canteen’s offering and ambitions, our design lay in creating an uncompromisingly contemporary environment that referenced the best dining experiences of the mid 20th century.

Upholstered banquette seating flanked the glazed facades whilst communal benches and solid oak tables occupied the centre of the spaces. The utilitarian design also features individual ceramic lamps, coat and bag storage and Corian trays adjacent to each table provided spaces fit for individual needs.
