Meet the makers: AJ Wells & Sons

We collaborated with Isle of Wight-based enamel specialists AJ Wells & Sons, to develop a set of bespoke enamel tables that respond to the industrial heritage of the Norton Folgate site. Historically home to glass merchants and purveyors of enamelled goods, the buildings once traded in Vitrolite splash backs, ironmongery and sanitary ware—making enamel a natural material through which to carry forward the site’s legacy.

The enamel surfaces were made using traditional hand-mixed mineral pigments—an alchemical process that required multiple visits to AJ Wells' workshop to finalise bespoke colours, textures and finishes. From the curvature of the tables to concealed power integration and tactile cork detailing, each piece was crafted in close partnership, pushing the boundaries of enamel fabrication and celebrating the material’s durability, depth and historical resonance.
